Skip the Apple and Give Them Some Cash
Today is National Teacher Day. I have worked as a visiting artist in some of Chicago Public Schools. It is no revelation that the state of our education system hangs by a bare thread. The situation seems to only worsen in most schools while others thrive. It is teachers that faithfully serve in the crumbling buildings of the worst schools that need the most praise. The life of the teacher that presses on unceasingly, though some of her students are malnourished, sleep deprived, drug addicted, physically or mentally abused, should be held up as a banner of civil excellence. My hat off to the teachers.
